What is the Jack Herer?

Who is Jack Herer?

He is a pro-cannabis legalization activist who has been recognized for his lifelong defense of the plant, as well as freedom. Clearly, he became very well known after doing a lot of activism for the legalization and decriminalization of cannabis. He also fought for hemp to be much more industrialized than it is today, although we are slowly moving in that direction. Jack Herer is an American from the East Coast, born in Buffalo in 1939. Jack Herer has always been an upright person. He enlisted himself in the army to fight in the Vietnam War as a young adult. Initially, Herer was not a big fan of cannabis and the hippie movement that went with it.

After a divorce in his thirties, he met a new woman who inspired him to try cannabis. Jack Herer tried it, and immediately understood that the world was now open to a new perspective. He had no idea of the sensations weed could bring and was immediately fulfilled. He changed his way of looking at things, and the war became secondary and even completely absurd.

In 1973, Jack Herer co-wrote a comic strip related to his new passion: Grass. It became the official guide to cannabis quality at the time. The system was graded from 1 to 10, with 1 being poor quality and 10 superb. He sold over 30,000 underground copies, because yes, cannabis was illegal in the U.S. at the time. It was then that Jack Herer became a key figure in the cannabis world.

In 1979, he opened a cannabis store in Venice Beach, California, with a friend of his to continue his fight.

In 1983, he wrote the book L'empereur est nu (The Emperor is Naked). This book recounts the major ideas of cannabis, including many controversial subjects at the time. The book went on to become a best-seller for a very long time.

Jack Herer sadly passed away in 2009 after several consecutive heart attacks.

The Jack Herer variety

It's the fruit of a cross between a Northern Lights, a Haze and a Shiva Skunk #1, created by Sensi Seeds. Jack Herer is therefore a perfect, stable hybrid strain with 50% Indica and 50% Sativa. Many variants followed, the most widely recognized being those with a sativa leaning.

The phenotype of Jack Herer often has a minimum THC content of 15%, but can quickly rise to around 20%. It's therefore a very potent strain. It's best to use Jack Herer during the day, as its effects are much more cerebral than physical.

How to grow Jack Herer?

Not the most difficult variety to grow, it will give you good yields if you give it the nutrients it needs and, most importantly, lots of love.

Jack Herer is easy to grow, so you won't have to wait for anything in particular, except that it tends to be a large plant, growing up to 180cm. So you'll need to make arrangements in advance for your growing space.

This variety will often have a slightly more sativa side, while possessing good resistance to mildew and disease, which is not often the case for Sativa varieties. It therefore needs little maintenance. It is advisable, however, to grow Jack Herer indoors for the best possible quality. On average, Jack Herer takes between 7 and 10 weeks to flower.

Jack Herer: effects and tastes

As for the taste of Jack Herer, there are hints of citrus with notes of spice. It's a variety that nevertheless offers many different flavors. You'll find orange and lemon notes, with a big sweet base: it's a delight. The Skunk cross variety will give you some very appreciable woody and herbaceous touches.

The effect remains cerebral overall, thanks to the sativa strains, but its large Indica part also reaches you physically. Obviously, you won't get the same THC effects as with our Jack Herer CBD which will give you a boost during the day so you can stay focused.
