Letter: A

Organic CBD Farming

Organic farming of CBD is an alternative method of agricultural production that prioritizes humus, autonomy, and natural balances. in the UK, organic farming began in the 1950s, thanks to a number of farmers concerned with sustaining soil fertility and quality, as well as animal health.

Farmers practicing organic farming are grouped mostly within the FNAB network, a professional union. The AB (Agrigulture Biologique) logo is French, the leaf made up of stars is the European logo. There are other standards concerning products considered "organic" (Demeter, Nature et Progrès, Biocohérence, etc.) sometimes much more demanding and/or concerning certain types of specific products (cosmetic or hygiene products for example).

Cannabaceae (Cannabaceae)

Cannabaceae or Cannabaceae is a family of dicotyledonous plants that includes two genera: cannabis and humulus (hops). The genus cannabis only includes so-called annual plants while the genus humulus, for its part, generally includes perennial plants.

Cannabinoid

Cannabinoids are molecules that activate certain receptors present in mammals and in the human body. The best known are tetrahydrocannabinol (THC) and cannabidiol (CBD), but about a hundred cannabinoids are known, without all of their respective effects being known yet. Also worth mentioning are CBN , CBG , CBC, etc.

Cannabis

It is an ancestral plant, it is known for its different virtues. There are a multitude of varieties of Cannabis, but according to scientists, the only variety that gave birth to all the others is: Cannabis Sativa L.

This plant is often associated with drugs because nowadays the THC levels of some varieties are very high. But we are also obliged to mention other areas for which this plant is useful, such as construction, the textile industry as well as a certain future for biofuels.

Wellness Cannabis / CBD

Wellness Cannabis or Light is a form of "light" cannabis since it must not contain more than 0.3% THC. This is in fact what is now referred to by the acronym " CBD ". It seems to provide consumers with benefits such as reduced anxiety and stress, as well as reduced pain, without all the problems associated with THC. Its sale and consumption are not linked to a medical prescription.

Cannabis light

Cannabis Light is the term used to refer to cannabis flowers that contain both a high level of CBD ( cannabidiol ) and a low level of THC (tetrahydrocannabinol).

Light cannabis is distinguished by a calming effect, and above all, without the psychoactive side which is generated by “classic” cannabis and which is why it is prohibited.

Recreational Cannabis

Recreational cannabis is the term used to refer to cannabis that has psychotropic effects (the varieties used contain high levels of THC). It is considered a drug and is in the UK illegal in the UK .

Medical cannabis

Therapeutic cannabis, also called medical cannabis, refers to cannabis used in different forms of treatment which may contain levels of THC and CBD controlled according to the pathologies to be treated and which are given after a medical prescription (in countries where it is recognized).

in the UK, a two-year scientific study led by the ANSM (Agence Nationale de la Santé et du Médicament) has begun, involving three thousand patients.

CBC: Cannabichromene

Its name is Cannabichromene: it is the third most important cannabinoid in the cannabis plant. Today, researchers have not found much about it due to the lack of studies carried out. However, it would play a role in neurogenesis, the decrease of inflammation and the reduction of pain. It does not seem to be psychoactive.

CBD: Cannabidiol

CBD or Cannabidiol, is a molecule of the Cannabis plant. Unlike the THC molecule, CBD has no psychoactive properties. On the contrary, Cannabidiol has many advantages . Ongoing studies mention its relaxing effects, also anti-inflammatory, which would help in the practice of sport (running, contact sports, etc.). Still in favor of CBD and unlike THC, these studies address a reduction in anxiety, psychoses or other addictions.

But let's not forget to point out that CBD is not a recognized medicine in the UK. It is simply considered a dietary supplement.

CBDa

CBAa is short for “cannabidolic acid.” It is a cannabinoid found naturally in cannabis that converts to CBD after exposure to heat or during drying.

CBD Broad Spectrum

We speak of Broad Spectrum or broad spectrum for the following categories of CBD products: CBD oil and CBD candies especially, but CBD flowers and CBD resins are also concerned. The hemp plant has different molecules such as cannabinoids, terpenes and flavonoids. We speak of Broad Spectrum when the THC molecule has been completely removed from the finished product for its marketing. The finished product is therefore free of THC and will still benefit from the other molecules and therefore properties.

CBD Full Spectrum

We speak of Full Spectrum or complete spectrum for the following categories of CBD products: CBD oils and CBD e-liquids especially, but CBD flowers and CBD resins are also concerned. The hemp plant has different molecules such as cannabinoids, terpenes and flavonoids. We therefore speak of Full Spectrum when all the molecules have been preserved in the finished product, including THC (within the legal limit of 0.3%).

CBG: Cannabigerol

Cannabigerol or CBG is a cannabinoid present in the cannabis plant. Like other molecules from cannabis, it is one of the hundred or so cannabinoids present in this plant. We find in CBG similarities with CBD in terms of effects. Possessing anti-inflammatory properties and analgesic effects, it would fight against glaucoma and help to regain appetite.

CBL: Cannabicyclol

CBL is a molecule found in the cannabis plant. Its full name is Cannabicyclol. Very little research has been done on this molecule, but it is certainly not the least interesting! Research shows that it has some anti-inflammatory potential and that it could help fight tumors. A regulation of muscle contractions thanks to cannabicyclol has also been discovered.

CBN: Cannabinol

Cannabinol or also called CBN is a molecule present in the hemp plant. It is part of the cannabinoid family. It is not present in the so-called fresh plant, it is created when the plant is exposed to light and air after cutting the plant. It is the result of an oxidation of THC.

CBN is currently being studied for eye problems and glaucoma, skin problems, and loss of appetite. It is also said to be antibacterial, neuroprotective, anticonvulsant, and anti-inflammatory.

Hemp

Hemp is a plant belonging to the Cannabaceae family. Unlike cannabis, hemp contains little or no THC, the psychoactive molecule. in the UK, we mainly use the term "industrial hemp." Most of its production is destined for the textile and construction industries for its fiber, and for the food industry for its seeds. Varieties in the UK permitted with a THC content of less than 0.3%.

Food supplement

CBD is currently considered a dietary supplement! Europe and France have given a common definition of what is considered a dietary supplement: These are foods whose purpose is to supplement the normal diet. These constitute a concentrated source of nutrients or other substances with a nutritional or physiological effect. But be careful, dietary supplements are not medicines. They contribute to well-being and not to cure a disease.

CBD concentration

CBD concentration is the value corresponding to the mass of CBD contained per volume of CBD solution. This value expressed as a percentage differs from one product to another. For example, a CBD oil can contain 5%, 10%, 15%, and even 40% CBD.

A CBD oil with a CBD concentration of 10% is logically twice as concentrated in CBD as a CBD oil rich in 5%.

CBD Crystals

CBD crystals are a very pure and isolated form of CBD that resembles sugar. CBD crystals are isolates, meaning that only CBD remains in the final product (bye bye other cannabinoids). The CBD concentration is often above 98%.

CBD Entourage Effect

The CBD entourage effect was discovered in cannabis research and the term was first used in 1988, when an interaction was discovered between the different components present in cannabis. This is a rule according to which the association between different components present in cannabis can increase (or regulate) the effect of each component, often improving the effect compared to taking cannabinoids in isolation.

Example: The action of CBD in the form of isolated crystals will be less effective than the action of CBD combined with other terpenes or cannabinoids.

Supercritical CO2 extraction

Supercritical CO2 extraction is a method of treating plant material with CO2 in a supercritical state. This state is obtained under specific temperature and pressure conditions. It is a process known to be virtuous since the CO2 then behaves as an ecological and recyclable solvent. In the case of hemp, this process makes it possible, for example, to isolate and extract cannabinoids and other active ingredients from the plant.

Flavonoids

Flavonoids are part of one of the large families of nutrients. There are about twenty of them found in cannabis, some of which are only present in this plant. They are known for their antioxidant and anti-inflammatory properties, and contribute to the color of our food.

Pharmaceutical form of CBD

The dosage form describes the form in which a medicine or dietary supplement comes. This can be capsules, tablets, oils, etc.

Indica

Indica are cannabis varieties that come straight from the Himalayan regions. As their name suggests, Indica for the country of India. The plants are rather small and bushy with large thick leaves. The reported effects of Indica varieties are that they bring a "STONE" sensation, powerful, brittle or even knockout. These varieties are therefore preferred before going to sleep or at the end of the day. Indica is also known to stimulate the appetite and soothe pain. The best-known varieties in the Indica family are Kush or Skunk.

CBD Isolate

CBD isolate is by definition an isolation of a single molecule (in our case CBD) in order to preserve only the properties of this same molecule. We find this isolate in the form of crystals, powder or wax. CBD levels can reach 99%.

Kanavape (stop)

The judgment related to the Kanavape case refers to the decision rendered on November 19, 2020 by the Court of Justice of the European Union. The CJEU ruled illegal the French ban on the marketing of cannabidiol (CBD) products, emphasizing that this molecule present in hemp has "no psychotropic effect or harmful effect on human health."

The European Court of Justice has thus reaffirmed the principle of free movement of goods and property by authorizing the importation and marketing of CBD-based products in the UK for all EU member states.

Limonene

Limonene is a terpene with a citrus aroma. It is known to have antibacterial and antifungal properties.

MILDECA

MILDECA or Interministerial Mission to Combat Drugs and Addictive Behavior was created in 1982. This French organization, placed under the authority of the Prime Minister, leads and coordinates the actions of the State at different levels: fight against drugs and drug addiction; reception, care and reintegration of drug addicts; training of people involved in the fight against drugs and drug addiction; research, information and fight against drug trafficking. Mildeca is mainly composed of mission managers.

Psychotropic / Psychoactive

A psychotropic drug is a chemical substance that acts on the psyche and the central nervous system. It is a term that is very often associated with drugs as well as medications. It is said to be "psychoactive".

CB1 and CB2 receptors

CB1 and CB2 receptors are components of the endocannabinoid system. CB1 receptors are found in the brain and nervous systems, while CB2 receptors are found in the gastrointestinal system, immune system, and peripheral nervous system.

Sativa

Sativa are varieties of cannabis that have been mainly cultivated by the hemp industry, for its fiber and high yield. It is a plant from the equatorial regions. It is tall and has thin and long leaves. Sativa varieties are used as raw material in the textile, construction and cosmetics sectors. Also known for its psychotropic effects with a naturally high THC content, it has euphoric effects that provide a strong dose of energy, called "HIGH". Its users report that it motivates, promotes creativity and excites. The best-known varieties in the Sativa family are Haze.

Hemp Union

The Hemp Trade Association is a trade association representing a large proportion of the players in the wellness hemp, medical cannabis, and textile hemp sectors. The association works with public authorities to represent the interests of players in the hemp and cannabis sector in the UK.

Endocannabinoid System / ECS

The endocannabinoid system is made up of receptors (or sensors), CB1, CB2 and THC, all three of which can be described as a lock, and keys, the cannabinoids, which activate the receptors.

Receptors are found throughout the human body (brain, lungs, intestines, etc.). The keys or active substances exist in the different varieties of cannabis. CB1 sensors are involved in particular in the processing of our emotions or influence our memory. CB2s focus mainly on the immune system. It is through them that the anti-inflammatory effects of CBD or "well-being" / "light" cannabis are manifested.

Terpene

Terpenes are a class of hydrocarbons, produced by many plants, especially conifers. Among other things, they allow plants to protect themselves against insects. Initial studies show that cannabis terpenes have anti-inflammatory, antioxidant, relaxing, etc. properties. They have no psychoactive effect. They also contribute to the aroma and scent of certain plants (conifers, eucalyptus, etc.). They also form a natural protection for plants against fungi, insects, environmental stress and bacteria.

THC: Tetrahydrocannabinol

Δ-9-tetrahydrocannabinol is the main active molecule in cannabis. It is a psychotropic drug that produces psychoactive effects that are often described as "high". Depending on the THC level, which varies from 0 to 25% for a plant, the effects will be more or less powerful. Euphoria, drowsiness and a feeling of fatigue are some of its effects. This molecule is addictive. It can therefore only be present at a maximum level of 0.3% in "CBD" products.

THCV

THCV is a cannabinoid present in the cannabis plant: it is relatively close to THC. It could have a beneficial effect on negative sensations such as anxiety. Many studies are underway on this molecule which could also have high medicinal potential.

Trichomes

Trichomes are cannabinoid-rich (resin) glands found on the cannabis plant. They are small spheres that coat the leaves, buds, and branches, giving them a frosty white appearance. Trichomes function as a defense mechanism and deter insects and animals from approaching them thanks to their bitter taste.

UPCBD

The UPCBD is the Union of CBD Professionals, a federation created in 2021 and chaired by Mr. Charles Morel. Bringing together various players in the sector, including networks of specialized stores, this new structure campaigns for the establishment of a clear regulatory framework and for the legalization of CBD flower.

Sublingual route

The sublingual route is one of the most common and effective methods for consuming products such as cannabidiol oil. In concrete terms, it involves placing a few drops of CBD oil under the tongue, and letting the product dissolve and diffuse through the bloodstream via the mucous membranes of the mouth.
