CBD to help dogs and cats scared of hunting?
Share
In France, the number of hunters is estimated at around 1 million. Imagine the number of shots fired by all these hunters in a single year. As you can imagine, that's a lot of shots fired, and our pets can be greatly stressed and frightened by them. Hunting grounds are shrinking by the day as new urban developments take over natural areas.
The Cali Weed team started from a simple, personal observation: hunters are sometimes found very close to homes in the countryside, and this is a bad thing for our pets. Dogs are stressed and questioning, while cats are likely to run and hide when the anxiety of gunfire invades their bodies. So you ask: what do hunting, dogs and cats have to do with CBD? In this article, we'll show how CBD can help and relieve your pets if they regularly hear gunshots during hunting season.
Hunting in France
Hunting is an ancestral practice, in which men hunted with the sole aim of feeding themselves and providing for their basic needs. This practice has evolved over time, with guns replacing bows and arrows, gradually reducing the chances of survival for prey. Today, many hunters confess that hunting has become more of a "nature and pleasure outing" for them, rather than an activity to meet the need to feed themselves. There are around five million people in France who have already held a hunting licence. As mentioned above, approximately one million people take up hunting every year, although the number of hunters is declining all the time.
Housing is often close to hunting grounds, as there are more and more buildings and inhabitants, and fewer natural areas. As hunting perimeters gradually shrink, encounters between hunters and domestic animals are becoming increasingly common. If you live in the provinces, the sound of gunfire is a regular occurrence. It's becoming more and more common to come across hunters on our roadsides, or simply to see them crossing fields or waiting patiently for prey to emerge from thickets.
In the midst of all this activity, we've forgotten the most important thing of all: our pets. Have you ever seen your pets frightened by fireworks? Well, it's quite possible that during your working day, your pet could be frightened by the sound of gunshots and you wouldn't even know it.
What is CBD?
CBD or cannabidiol is a molecule derived from the hemp plant. Its properties on human beings need no further demonstration. For some years now, you've been able to find CBD in CBD Shops all over France, as well as on the Internet on our Cali Weed website. This substance is far from being harmful to health, quite the contrary. TheWHO (World Health Organization) report confirms that CBD, or cannabidiol, contains an incredible number of benefits for a single molecule.
Extensive studies on CBD are relatively recent, so there's still a lot to discover. Primarily, CBD is used to relieve or even annihilate chronic pain in order to soothe people. But CBD is also widely used to combat epileptic seizures. As another example, CBD is widely consumed by people suffering from insomnia or sleep disorders, as it relaxes and de-stresses muscles, enabling them to fall asleep more peacefully.
Why can CBD help our dogs and cats?
Let's do a simple exercise and put yourself in your pet's shoes. Gunshots are ringing out around your home, and your pet simply thinks it's going to die (its survival instinct takes over). The most important feeling at that precise moment is simply fear, followed closely by stress and anxiety.
We're not blaming hunting or hunters - we wouldn't want to make enemies with guns (^^). We're simply pointing out that our animals can frequently be anxious about this more than sensitive subject. The detonations made by gunshots seem unpredictable and put our animals in a state of total stress.
CBD for dogs and cats is one solution to this problem. It's important to inform yourself in advance about the correct dosage and administration methods. We recommend an article we wrote on : Our advice before giving CBD to your pets.
Sometimes the problem isn't where you think it is. It simply comes from training. By thinking you're comforting your dog, you're reassuring him and giving him the information that his fear is good. So, if you've got five minutes to spare, we've put together a short video on this subject that might help you and your dog to sort out a few misunderstandings.
So here's this short video from the Educ-Dog website, which we'd like to thank for its invaluable advice.
Noise can therefore be a stress or anxiety factor for your dog or cat, and CBD helps them to overcome these difficult moments.
CBD for dogs and CBD for cats
You're not at home all day, and that's normal - we're all busy with work or other activities. But when your dog or cat finds itself alone and hears gunshots ringing out, it's likely to remain frightened. If you want to make sure your pet doesn't get stressed, it's entirely possible to give him CBD or cannabidiol to relieve and anticipate this anxiety.
If you want to give CBD to your dog or cat, you can of course buy CBD made in France and organically grown directly from our site. Simply visit our page dedicated to CBD oil for dogs and cats.
On the other hand, if it's just for your cat, this is the product we recommend. Only the quantity differs, as dogs need slightly more CBD oil than cats due to their weight.
If you'd like to take your pet's CBD experience a step further, we also offer CBD shampoos for cats and dogs. These CBD shampoos have numerous benefits for your pet's skin and coat, and are PH-neutral, with natural fragrances for sensitive skin or lavender.
Giving CBD to your dog or cat
It's important to be a good observer to see how your pet reacts. The dosage is generally 0.2 mg CBD per kilo (of your pet). Depending on the results, you can of course gradually increase the dose up to 1 mg CBD per kilo.
There are two methods of administering CBD oil for dogs and cats. You can either give it directly under the tongue orally (or sublingually). If it's difficult for you to use this method, it's also possible to give it directly by adding it to his bowl and stirring.
As mentioned above, we're not here to give hunting a bad name. We are simply pointing out a point that is often overlooked, to ensure that our pet dogs and cats are not overly affected and frightened by the noise that this activity causes. Of course, we hope that hunters will continue to be able to hunt (although we prefer them to hunt non-living targets), and that cats and dogs will not be stressed or anxious. So if you have any questions about CBD for dogs or cats, please don't hesitate to contact us via this form, and we'll be delighted to talk to you.
